FTY PRESS RELEASE: FTY HQ LAUNCHES FOR THE 2021/22 FESTIVE SEASON IN ACCRA, GHANA
AFRICA’S LEADING FASHION COLLECTIVE FREE THE YOUTH IS SET TO UNVEIL A SERIES OF POP-UP EVENTS & PARTIES IN GHANA THIS FESTIVE SEASON –
CELEBRATING THE BEST OF GHANIAN STREET FASHION, MUSIC, ART & CULTURE
Africa’s revolutionary streetwear collective FREE THE YOUTH (FTY) is set to host a series of pop-up events during the months of December 2021 and January 2022, bringing together some of Ghana’s most inspiring up-and-coming artists, musicians and creative trailblazers. With headquarters based in Ghana’s capital city Accra, the much-loved disruptive streetwear brand will host a calendar of fashion and culture events, parties, panels and workshops centred around the community, whilst offering unique spaces to share cutting-edge ideas, voice opinions and create influential connections within the African diaspora creative scene. The FTY collective continues to go from strength to strength with notable collaborations with several brands like United Nations, Nike, Daily Paper, Tik Tok, Sony Music, Footlocker, LVRN, SmallGod and STEELO to name a few.
And it's not only the clothes they are promoting. As life-long residents of the neighbouring harbour city of Tema, the FTY team aims to give a voice and platform to the youth through events and festivities across both Accra and Tema. Located an hour away from Accra, Tema is known to be one of the few places in Ghana with a large number of youth and noteworthy festivities like the Tema Masquerade Carnival, held during the Christmas period. This event is a unique celebration where Ghana’s cultural history is being preserved by new generations of youth who are proud to get into costume. The festive carnival will see streets adorned with colour, traditional costumes, masks and plenty of dancing amidst brass band music.
It’s worth noting that the two-month-long pop events aren’t only aimed at locals and those in the know. Ghana has been blowing up on the international scene as the go-to African destination for festive season celebrations, parties and vibes, and with travel restrictions easing, now is the time to go.
FTY is tapped into the pulse of the culture, making a unique cultural impact in the music, dance, and arts scene in Ghana. Last year, FTY’s streetwear collections were all over Accra. Worn on the backs of people from all walks of life, the brand is shaping the look of youth culture on the continent and beyond. With thought-provoking graphic print T-shirts, sweaters and denim, FTY is pushing a pro-youth and Africa-positive message that resonates with the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Mr Eazi, and Major League DJs. Others have been showing love and promoting the brand on socials, bringing more hype and attention to the movement.
